In a landmark conservation move, the Mexican avocado industry will be the first to join Mexican federal government’s deforestation-free exports initiative. Thanks to generations of responsible practices, at least 85% of the 54,000 Mexican avocado orchards already qualify under the new standards. This agreement represents an important milestone on the industry’s Path to Sustainability to protect Mexico’s avocado landscape, reinforcing the commitment to strengthen water and environmental stewardship, conserve biodiversity and restore ecological connectivity, and build a resilient future. “The growth of the avocado industry can only be sustained if environmental issues are addressed. These efforts are essential not only to offer the best quality avocados but also the most sustainable ones.” – Ana Ambrosi, Avocado Institute of Mexico
