America’s Love of Avocados Drives Economic Growth on Both Sides of the Border

According to a new economic contribution analysis from Texas A&M University1, the imports of Mexican Hass avocados have made substantial contributions to the U.S. economy during the 2019-2020 growing season. In this timeframe, more than 2.1 billion pounds of avocados were imported into the U.S. from the Mexican state of Michoacán – fueling consumers’ love of the healthy fruit while also positively benefiting and growing U.S. national and state economies.

Mexican Avocado Export Value Continues to Rise in 2020

Mexican avocado export values rose in early 2020 despite the global pandemic and lower export volumes.

According to a study by the Consultative Group of Agricultural Markets (GCMA), which was based on data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), avocado exports value was $1.132 billion from January to April, an increase of 3.4 percent over the $1.095 billion in the same period during 2019, as reported by La Jornada.
